Many attempts have been made by modern day archaeologists with the help of references in vedic texts, to discover the route map and river beds of dried up Saraswati river. India was the name given by europeans due to the Indus Valley Civilization that was believed as root of all civilizations in this land and they had to cross Indus River to enter into this country.īut, India had much older history and today, Indus river flows through Pakistan, but not India. Infact, Punjab got its name due to Punj(Five) rivers flowing through its land. Jhelum changed its course in 1552-55 AD and Beas changed its course during 1996 flash floods. Rig Veda describes it as one of seven major rivers of Vedic times, the others being, Shatadru (Sutlej), Vipasa (Beas), Askini (Chenab), Parsoni or Airavati (Ravi), Vitasta (Jhelum) and Sindhu (Indus). In Vedas and ancient scriptures, Saraswati river was referred by various names like Markanda, Hakra, Suprabha, Kanchanakshi, Visala, Manorama etc. Rajasthan dried up and ended as arid desert where hot winds piled up dunes of sand. Nearly 6000 years later, River Saraswati started drying up and other rivers changed their course. Western Rajasthan was green and fertile with abundant river waters and copious rains helping many civilizations prosper on their banks. Nearly 10000 years ago, many rivers were flowing from Himalayas and ending in arabian sea. The Biblical prophecies (Matthew 24, Luke 21, Revelation 16) foretell that the water of the Euphrates River will dry up preparing the way for powerful nations from the east to come to the battle of Armageddon signaling the world is nearing the end of this age and the coming of Jesus Christ.The Indus script was first dismissed as imagistic, but has since been found to be very similar to the later Brahmi script, and is possibly related to early Semitic scripts from which the present-day alphabet developed. ![]() As people in both Syria and Iraq, are directly dependent on the Euphrates. Which this also disrupts electricity generation as dams run low and out, which in turn affects the operation of basic infrastructure including health facilities.įarmers in Syria have been financially affected as the creeping drought affects their agricultural land with them saying they are thinking of leaving because there’s no water left to drink or to irrigate their land. It also produces electricity as well from hydroelectric power for about three million people in Syria.īut aid groups and engineers say that rising temperatures, lower rainfall and drought across the region are gradually depriving people of drinking water and agricultural water. As the river is the main source of clean drinking water for people. More than five million people in Syria directly depend on the Euphrates River. ![]() The Euphrates River, Syria’s longest river, is drying up and raising concerns as millions of people in Syria are losing access to water, food and electricity, from the demise of the river that can lead to a humanitarian disaster.
